Moonlit Magnolias 1 began with an attempt to paint moonlight in a way that felt quieter and less literal. What started as an experiment gradually became the first painting in a larger series and the beginning of an unexpected fascination with reflected light and atmosphere.
The magnolia blossoms emerge from a deep blue evening sky, suspended between stillness and movement. A moon rests just off-center, present but understated, allowing the branches and flowers to hold the viewer's attention. The composition balances cool blues, soft violets, and pale pinks, creating a sense of calm that changes with the surrounding space and light.
What continues to interest me about this painting is that it arrived through curiosity rather than certainty. I wasn't trying to make a statement or illustrate a particular story. I was simply following a question about light and seeing where it led.
This fine art print captures the image and atmosphere of the original painting, making it possible to bring the piece into a wider range of spaces. It works especially well in bedrooms, reading nooks, and other quiet corners where a slower kind of looking feels at home.
